Are we building too many biolabs?

Answer: Quite possibly. Since my story on biolabs came out in March, I’ve done two interviews, a Twitter chat, and a Reddit Ask Me Anything on the subject. People asked great questions, and I got talk about facts I’d left on the cutting room floor.

Here’s the Ask Me Anything

Here’s the Twitter chat, where several biosecurity experts and I answered questions under the hashtag #BioDefenseintheHeartland. You’ll find great commentary from bio-wizards Filippa Lentzos of King’s College London, Laura H. Kahn of Princeton, Gregory Koblentz of George Mason University, and Nathan Myers of Indiana State University.

Finally, Paul DeRienzo of WBAI in New York interviewed me about the Plum Island Animal Disease Center and the new National Bio and Agro-Defense facility. Before that, he talked to my Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists colleague Matt Field about coronavirus conspiracy theories. Go here to listen. The conspiracy theory segment starts at 20:14 and my segment starts at 26:22.

The other interview hasn’t posted yet. More soon on that.
